Det var en riktigt fin jul på Sjölunden!  Vi åt julbord, pysslade med julpynt, kollade på Kalle Anka och gjorde mångra andra roliga (o-juliga) aktiviteter.  Vi börjar med bilder från språkgrupp på morgonen.

We had a lovely Christmas at Sjölunden!  We ate a Christmas buffet, made Christmas crafts, watched the traditional Swedish disney films and did a lot of other (un-Christmasy) activities as well.  We’ll start with some pictures from language group in the morning.

Och förstås många bilder från Allsång, både innan och efter lunch.

And of course we have lots of pictures from singing time, both before and after lunch.

Till lunch åt vi julbord med mycket mat, som julskinka, janssons frälstelse, senapssill, osv.  Det var gott!

For lunch we ate a Christmas buffet with lots of food, such as Christmas ham, potatoes au gratin (Jansson’s Temptation), mustard herring, etc.  It was tasty!

PÃ¥ flaghalning hade barnen bett om att fÃ¥ leka skrikleken en gÃ¥ng till… sÃ¥ vi gjorde det!   Kolla in alla min som de gör medans de koncentrerar sig och sen skriker!

At flag lowering time we played the scream game again by popular request.  Check out all of their expressions as they concentrate on the game and then when they scream!

Innan vi fick gÃ¥ till middag var vi tvungen att visa nÃ¥nting “juligt” som en stuga… Hammarland valde att dansa runt julgranen och Zmiyivka visade julgranen med julklapp under.  Närpes (bild saknas) sjöng “Natten gÃ¥r tunga fjät”.

Before we were allowed to go to dinner each cabin had to put on a Christmas scene… Hammarland chose to danse around the Christmas tree while Zmiyivka showed the tree with presents underneath.  Närpes (not pictured) sang a Sankta Lucia song.

Till kvällsprogram hade vi pyjamas julfest–vi pysslade med julpynt i vÃ¥ra familjegrupper och lärde oss om hur jul firas i olika länder.  Vi hängde upp julpyntet i granen och sen kollade pÃ¥ Kalle Anka medans vi Ã¥t risgrynsgröt.  Gruppen som lärde sig om nederländska jultraditioner gjorde morötter till granen–morötter är tydligen viktiga i den nederländska julen.

For our evening program we had a Christmas pajama party–we did Christmas crafts with our family groups and we learned about how Christmas is celebrated in various different countries.  We hung our crafts on the Christmas tree and then watched Swedish Disney films and ate rice pudding, as is traditionally done in Sweden on Christmas Eve.  The group that learned about Dutch Christmas traditions made carrots to hang in the tree because carrots feature prominently in the Dutch Christmas celebrations.
